You know when I first moved to Dubai, and I struggled to find any cool, modern prints to hang in my apartment? I really wish I had found Drawdeck earlier. It kept popping up in my Facebook feed (the targeted advertising is working, guys!). I decided to take a look at what it had to offer.
Drawdeck is an online platform, based around the corner from me in Business Bay. It provides an outlet for artists to sell their designs, which are printed locally on canvas, paper, clothing and home accessories. Best of all, given its based in Dubai, it ships locally! Founded in 2013, Drawdeck was started by David Hammond and Alex Dunn as a portfolio platform, but it quickly developed into an online marketplace. Now, artists from all over the world are able to register to sell their wares through the platform, providing they meet its carefully curated aesthetic. A quick glance at the artists page features designers from the U.A.E., Jordan, U.S.A., U.K., Japan, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia, Georgia, Portugal and Turkey.
There is really something here to suit all design junkies. With the founders aiming to take affordable art to the masses, they are well on the way to achieving their goal. While there will always be the romantic notion of walking into an art gallery and picking a piece, this simply isn’t affordable for the majority of people. Drawdeck offers people the opportunity to bring a little graphic design flair into their homes with just the click of a mouse.
There is an eclectic mix of designs available on the site. Me? I love vintage travel posters. Henry Rivers provides a fine choice of these, with small prints at just 100AED. Regular prints are printed on 280gsm, acid free, 100% cotton fine art paper. Canvas prints are printed on 350gsm white matte canvas. Each come in a range of sizes and prices. The website also offers limited edition art prints for very competitive rates. With a well-designed search function – which even lets you search by colour – you will be sure to find something that suits.
If you are looking for some inspiration, check out their collections. Whether you are looking to deck out the nursery, man cave or living room, you are sure to find something that speaks to you. I’m figuring out where this delightful giraffe riding a shark print could fit in with my decor. I’ll find somewhere.
Best of all, sign up now to their newsletter, and you will receive a 10% off voucher. If you get in quickly enough, you can even take advance of their Eid sale – 20% off all prints. Prints start at 56AED, and considering prices are already pretty splendid, this is even more of an incentive to brighten up your walls!
